On April 7, 2025, Auchincloss shared his views on tariffs, emphasizing their impact on American citizens regardless of which administration implements them. He stated: "I criticized tariffs under a Democratic president. I criticize them under a Republican president. They're a tax hike on the middle class and an opening for China."

The following day, on April 8, 2025, Auchincloss turned his attention to legislation concerning Chinese shipping and fentanyl smuggling. He referenced his previous efforts to address the issue: "Last term, I drafted bipartisan legislation on Chinese ships that would crack down on fentanyl smuggling without disrupting port operations.
