Voters in Massachusetts will have the opportunity to cast their ballots early for the upcoming 2024 November election starting Saturday, October 19. The early voting period will run through Friday, November 1. Information on early voting locations and times can be found on the Secretary of State’s website.
“This is the first presidential election since COVID where voters can cast a ballot ahead of Election Day,” stated Geoff Foster, Executive Director of Common Cause Massachusetts. He urged voters not to wait until Election Day and to join the many others who will participate in early voting.
Common Cause Massachusetts is involved in a national election protection coalition aimed at recruiting, training, and mobilizing volunteers to support voters at polling places. The coalition also operates a national nonpartisan voter assistance hotline: 866-OUR-VOTE. Voters encountering challenges or having questions about the voting process are encouraged to use this hotline for expert assistance.
The voter assistance hotline offers support in multiple languages:
ENGLISH: 866-OUR-VOTE / 866-687-8683
SPANISH: 888-VE-Y-VOTA / 888-839-8682
ASIAN LANGUAGES: 888-API-VOTE / 888-274-8683
ARABIC: 844-YALLA-US / 844-925-5287
In the 2020 election, nearly 70% of voters nationally cast their ballots by mail or before Election Day, setting a record for early voting participation according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
In Massachusetts, efforts led by Common Cause Massachusetts and other organizations resulted in the passage of the VOTES Act in 2022. This legislation expanded opportunities for early voting, continuing efforts that began with advocacy for expanded early voting back in 2014.
