Common Cause Massachusetts has initiated its 2024 Election Protection Program to assist voters in the upcoming November general election. The nonpartisan organization is seeking poll monitor volunteers to help ensure a smooth voting process in key areas.
The program is part of the largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition in the United States, which annually recruits, trains, and deploys thousands of volunteers nationwide, including in Massachusetts. These volunteers are trained to assist voters with understanding voting rules and overcoming obstacles at the ballot box. All volunteers will receive necessary training and support.
“While voter enthusiasm is high, we want to make sure all voters know their rights and can cast a ballot freely on Election Day,” said Geoff Foster, Common Cause Massachusetts executive director. “But we know some voters may have trouble casting a ballot and our trained, nonpartisan volunteers are here to help in-person, and by phone call or text.”
The coalition operates independently of any campaign or party. Poll monitors document voter experiences at each location they visit, noting wait times, technical issues, language and disability access, and compliance with state and federal laws. They address problems immediately when possible and escalate more complex issues to a Command Center staffed by Common Cause attorneys and other personnel.
Interested individuals can volunteer through protectthevote.net.
The coalition also runs the toll-free 866-OUR-VOTE hotline for voters who encounter issues. The hotline connects callers with experts who can provide assistance. It is available in multiple languages:
