In honor of Women's History Month
In honor of Women's History Month and the 50th anniversary of coeducation - the start of women attending Holy Cross - we're celebrating all the women who have led the way for future generations.
Even though she grew up in Worcester, Ericka Fisher '96 didn't know much about the College. That all changed on a campus visit when a passing student said hello to her outside Dinand Library; the moment of friendliness confirmed that Ericka had found her place.
Unable to leave Mount St. James behind, she returned to The Hill as a faculty member in 2001 when her daughter, Brianna '23, was a baby. Now Bri is a member of the senior class preparing to enter the world as a Holy Cross graduate.
The women's involvement at the College has deepened their connection to Worcester. As an associate professor and chair of education, Ericka has partnered with the Worcester Public Schools. This semester Bri is doing her student teaching in Worcester at Burncoat High School.
Ericka, a first-gen college student, teaches her daughter and her students that "our lives should not be spent navel-gazing, rather we should strive for connection, live with passion, and be committed to justice."
To all the Holy Cross women in the past 50 years who've taught us well, thank you for #LightingTheWay
