The Town of Holden announced on May 12 that individuals have been going door-to-door attempting to sell solar services while claiming to represent the Holden Municipal Light Department (HMLD).
Officials said these individuals are not affiliated with or endorsed by HMLD. The town emphasized that HMLD employees and authorized representatives will always carry proper identification.
“If someone comes to your home claiming to represent HMLD and you are unsure of their identity, please do not share personal information and report the incident to HMLD or your local police department,” the statement said.
Holden maintains a broad network of boards and committees focused on areas like conservation, housing, and recreation to support community needs, according to the official website. The town also owns the Eagle Lake Recreation Area and supports the Gale Free Library, which exceeds state minimum funding requirements. Holden’s population reached 17,346 in 2010, reflecting growth from previous decades. Its legislative body consists of a five-member Board of Selectmen elected to three-year terms. Additionally, Holden formed a Dementia Friendly Community Committee to enhance accessibility and support. The town’s zoning bylaw operates under Chapter 40A of Massachusetts General Laws in order to guide land use and preserve its suburban character, according to the official website.
Residents are urged by officials not only to remain vigilant against potential scams but also reminded about available community resources should they need further assistance.
