Assumption University Director of Athletics Eric Gobiel today announced that Stacey Mayer has been hired as the new Head Softball Coach.

"I am incredibly excited to welcome Stacey to the Assumption University family and look forward to her leadership of our softball program," stated Gobiel. "Stacey rose to the top of a very talented applicant pool and has a clear vision for what it takes to succeed at this level. She is a dynamic, up-and-coming coach who will take our program to new heights in the coming years."

Mayer comes to Assumption via Providence College, where she was the Assistant Softball Coach. While in the dugout for the Friars, Mayer helped the team improve in various offensive categories (batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage). She also assisted in the development in the field, as she led the outfield during both practice and individual practice sessions while also working with the catching staff. Mayer helped the team to a 20-win improvement in her second season in Providence, as they went 5-16-1 in 2021 before going 25-21 in 2022.

"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Eric Gobiel, along with Frank Millerick, Becky Mastrototoro, and the rest of the search committee, for giving me this incredible opportunity," said Mayer. "I am excited to be part of the Greyhound family and cannot wait to lead the Assumption University softball team. After being on campus, I immediately felt that I was surrounded by an athletic department that shares the same family values that I have. I am looking forward to joining this amazing community and building and developing the Assumption softball program."

Mayer, a Lincoln, R.I. native, graduated summa cum laude from Saint Joseph's (PA) in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing and a minor in elementary education. She was a four-year member of the Hawks softball program as an infielder (2016-19). She hit over .240 during her career, including a season-best .272 during the 2017 season.

After graduating in 2019, Mayer spent the 2019-20 campaign as the softball graduate assistant for Western New England, as the Golden Bears went 3-3 before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.

Mayer led Lincoln High School to back-to-back State Championships and undefeated seasons in 2012 and 2013. She was a four-time All-State and All-Division honoree. Mayer played for Rhode Island Thunder Gold, East Coast Firecrackers Gold, East Coast Elite Gold, and PA Krunch Gold on the travel circuit.
