#10 TUFTS DOWN #9 AMHERST, 8-1

After playing against the #6 MIT Engineers on Friday and the Bates College Bobcats on Saturday, the Amherst College women's tennis team returned to the Boston area to face the #10 Tufts University Jumbos. The contest took place on Sunday, May 1st at 2 pm, on Tufts' Lower Campus Tennis Courts. In pleasant, warm weather, the Jumbos were too good for the Mammoths', winning 8-1 in front of strong showing of home support.

Amherst suffered a tough start to the match, losing all 3 doubles matches. At the #3 spot, Anya Ramras '22 and Amy Cui '25 forced the match to a tiebreak but lost that 7-4. The Jumbos proceeded with the singles in a similar dominant fashion, winning 5 of the 6. Calista Sha '23 secured Amherst's only win of the match with a 6-0 2-6 6-4 win at the #3 singles spot.

Up Next:

Amherst's match against Tufts ends the team's 2022 regular season. The team carry a record of 10-7, and 7-3 in the NESCAC. Amherst finish 4th in the NESCAC standings, which qualifies them for the NESCAC championship tournaments for the top 8 teams in the conference. The first round – the quarterfinals – will take place on Friday, May 6th, at 1 pm. As Amherst are joint hosts of the tournaments, they will have home advantage, with the match planned to take place on the outdoor courts on Amherst's campus. The Mammoths will face rivals, the #18 Williams College Ephs.
