U.S. Representative Seth Moulton, who has represented Massachusetts’ 6th district in Congress since 2015, posted a series of statements on social media this week addressing Hispanic Heritage Month, Constitution Day, and the ongoing government funding negotiations.
On September 16, Moulton acknowledged the contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities, stating, “This month and every month, we honor the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities here in Massachusetts and across the country. Our nation and our future are stronger because of this vibrant community.”
The following day, he marked Constitution Day and Citizenship Day by emphasizing the importance of upholding constitutional protections. On September 17 he wrote: “Constitution Day and Citizenship Day remind us of the duty we have to protect the Constitution in order to safeguard freedom and equality for everyone here in America. At a time when constitutional protections are being tested, we must stand firm in upholding them.”
Later that same day, Moulton commented on current political negotiations over government funding. He said: “Republicans control all three branches of government. If they can’t keep the government open and refuse to negotiate with Democrats, they bear sole responsibility for this governing failure and the pain that families across America will feel as a result.”
Seth Moulton was born in Salem, Massachusetts in 1978 and continues to reside there. He is an alumnus of Harvard University with degrees from both its undergraduate college (2001) and business school (2011). Before his tenure in Congress began in 2015—when he succeeded John F. Tierney—he served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
