A Salvadoran national living in Lynn, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty in federal court on September 26 to illegally reentering the United States after having been previously deported. Emelio Neftaly Pineda, age 46, admitted to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien before U.S. Senior District Court Judge Patti B. Saris. Sentencing is scheduled for October 30.

Court records indicate that Pineda was removed from the country around July 20, 2016 following a felony conviction. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in July of this year.

The offense carries a potential penalty of up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine as high as $250,000. After serving any imposed sentence, Pineda faces deportation proceedings again. The final sentence will be determined by the judge according to federal sentencing guidelines and applicable laws.
