The Northeastern men’s rowing team will begin postseason competition on May 15 when the Huskies travel to Worcester, Massachusetts for the 79th annual Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond.

The event is a key part of the collegiate rowing calendar, with teams from across the region competing. Northeastern has entered four eights in the regatta. Heats are scheduled to start at 8 a.m., beginning with the fourth varsity boat, followed by first varsity at 8:20 a.m., second varsity at 9:40 a.m., and third varsity at 10:10 a.m. The top two finishers in each heat will advance to the grand finals later that day.

During the regular season, Northeastern’s first varsity eight secured cup victories over Penn, Brown, and Boston University. This marks only the thirteenth time in program history that Northeastern has won all three—Arlett, Burk, and Dreissigacker cups—in one season. The Huskies also competed against nationally ranked crews including No.1 Washington and No.4 Harvard.

Northeastern’s lower boats have shown strong performances as well; second varsity posted wins over Penn, Yale, Stanford, and Boston University while third varsity recorded victories against Brown, Yale, Stanford, and Boston University.

For this year’s Sprints seeding and lane assignments place Northeastern’s first varsity ranked sixth in EARC standings. They will race against top-seeded Princeton along with Yale (No.7), Wisconsin (No.12), and Navy (No.13). The second varsity is also seeded sixth with an early matchup versus Harvard (No.1), Penn (No.7), Columbia (No.12), and Navy (No.13). Third and fourth varsities are seeded seventh and ninth respectively.

This appearance marks Northeastern’s fifty-eighth participation at Eastern Sprints since its debut in 1966; overall they have captured eight first-place finishes across various boat classes including two by their first varsity eight.
