The Northeastern Huskies were eliminated from the NCAA Lawrence Regional on May 31 after a narrow 10-9 loss to No. 14 Arkansas at Hoglund Ballpark, ending their season with a record of 39-22.
Northeastern trailed by six runs but mounted multiple comebacks, including a ninth-inning rally that brought them within one run. Will Fosberg delivered a pinch-hit, two-RBI double and Henry DiGiorgio added an RBI single in the final frame before Arkansas secured the win with its closer, leaving the tying and go-ahead runs on base. The Razorbacks hit four home runs during the game, including two each in the seventh and ninth innings.
Cooper Maher started for Northeastern and pitched five innings, allowing four runs—two earned—on five hits with six strikeouts. A throwing error in the fourth inning contributed to three unearned runs for Arkansas. The Huskies responded offensively throughout the game; Matt Brinker hit a solo home run in the sixth inning as part of a comeback that tied the score at four before Arkansas regained control with back-to-back two-run homers in the seventh.
AJ Aschettino led Northeastern’s offense, going 3-for-3 with a two-run homer, two walks, two runs scored, and two RBIs. He finished regional play hitting .545 (6-for-11) with a .615 on-base percentage—the highest among Husky hitters. Fosberg’s key double came after fouling off several pitches during his nine-pitch at-bat in the ninth inning. Brinker and Ryan Gerety also had multi-hit games.
Robbie O’Connor was recognized as Northeastern’s top pitcher of regional play after posting a 1.29 ERA over seven innings against Missouri State on Saturday. That victory marked the first time under head coach Mike Glavine that Northeastern outhit an opponent in an NCAA Regional game; Sunday’s contest featured their highest hit total against any Southeastern Conference or Power Four opponent during Glavine’s tenure.
The Huskies won five out of six elimination games across both the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament and NCAA Regional over their final two weekends of competition.
