A federal grand jury has indicted Stacey Medina Guzman, 24, of Corona, New York, for allegedly smuggling over eight kilograms of cocaine into the United States. Authorities allege that Medina Guzman transported the drugs in duty-free alcohol boxes on a commercial flight from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic to Boston Logan International Airport.
According to court filings, Medina Guzman arrived at Boston Logan International Airport on February 4, 2026. U.S. Customs and Border Protection encountered her at the Port of Entry for international flights. She was reportedly carrying a duty-free bag containing two boxes labeled as Chivas Regal alcohol. A Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to possible narcotics in the bag.
Agents then searched the bag and discovered that both boxes had been resealed with glue. When opened, they allegedly contained twelve bricks of cocaine weighing about eight kilograms.
Medina Guzman faces one count each of importation of five kilograms or more of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, and conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances. Each charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years and up to life in prison, along with supervised release and fines up to $10 million. Sentencing decisions are made by a federal district court judge following U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: “The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.” Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England also announced the indictment. The Massachusetts State Police provided assistance during the investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Colin T. Missett and Lauren A. Graber are prosecuting the case.
