Jake Miller, a 42-year-old resident of Natick and owner of Kostas Roofing, was sentenced in federal court for tax evasion after admitting to concealing $1.6 million in business income from the Internal Revenue Service. U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy sentenced Miller to one year and one day in prison, followed by one year of supervised release. Miller must also pay $449,329 in restitution.

According to prosecutors, Miller operated his commercial and residential roofing business under the alias “Paul Kostas.” From 2013 through 2021, he cashed checks received from customers and deposited them into his personal bank accounts without filing any income tax returns during those years. This resulted in approximately $450,000 in evaded taxes.

“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Tom Demeo, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation in Boston; and Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Division, made the announcement today. Assistant U.S. Attorney David M. Holcomb of the Criminal Division prosecuted the case.”
