The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has extended its congratulations to Thomas DiPaolo, Amy Getchell, and Liz Williams for their recognition at the WTS-Boston Annual Awards and Scholarship Banquet. The event took place on June 12 and was organized by the Boston chapter of Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS-Boston).

Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt expressed pride in the awardees, stating, “We are so proud of Tom, Amy, and Liz for these well-earned recognitions. Their passion, dedication, and tireless work have made a meaningful difference for their colleagues and communities across Massachusetts.” She also praised WTS for its commitment to supporting women in the transportation industry.

Thomas DiPaolo from Peabody received the Honorable Ray LaHood Award for 2025. This accolade honors a man who has significantly contributed to advancing women and minorities within the transportation sector. Mr. DiPaolo’s career at MassDOT has been marked by his efforts to promote inclusivity and support underrepresented groups. He said, “I am truly humbled to be recognized by WTS for my efforts over the past 30 years to help MassDOT employees and our design consultants best serve the public.”

Amy Getchell of New Bedford and Liz Williams of Georgetown were awarded the Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award for 2024. Both have co-led the Statewide District Equity Initiative at MassDOT, which aims to enhance diversity and inclusion within transportation planning. Ms. Getchell remarked on her recognition: “I am thrilled and honored to be recognized by WTS for a project that is so near to my heart.” Ms. Williams added her gratitude towards WTS: “I am very grateful to WTS for this recognition.”

WTS International focuses on promoting women’s achievements in transportation while emphasizing their vital contributions to the industry. The Boston chapter was established in 1980 with an aim to expand its network globally.
