The University of Massachusetts rowing team will participate in the inaugural Mid-American Conference (MAC) Rowing Championship on May 16 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The event will take place at Ford Lake and is set to begin at 9 a.m.
This competition marks the first time the MAC has held a rowing championship. Teams competing include hosts Eastern Michigan, UMass, Toledo, and affiliate members Delaware, High Point, and Temple. The winner of the event will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship scheduled for May 29-31 in Gainesville, Georgia.
Each team will field five boats: Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Third Varsity 8, Varsity 4, and Second Varsity 4. Only results from the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, and Varsity 4 races will count toward overall championship scoring. Racing begins with the Second Varsity 4 at 9:00 a.m., followed by Third Varsity 8 at 9:15 a.m., Varsity 4 at 9:30 a.m., Second Varsity 8 at 9:45 a.m., and concludes with the Varsity 8 race at10:00 a.m. An awards ceremony is scheduled for10:45a.m.
Massachusetts aims to win its first conference title since2017.The program previously captured16conference championships—all as part of the Atlantic10—dating back to1996.
