The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has announced that applications for the 2025 Low Number Plate Lottery will be available online starting at 10:00 a.m. on June 16, 2025. Applicants must submit their entries by 5:00 p.m. on August 15, 2025, to be eligible for the lottery.

This year, the RMV is offering 283 low number plates through the lottery, including numbers such as 42, 108, and X8. There is no fee to apply; however, winners will need to pay a special plate fee and a standard registration fee.

Applicants are encouraged to visit the RMV website or follow @MassRMV on X for details about the drawing event, which will be announced later this summer. Notifications with event details will also be sent via email to applicants.

To qualify, applicants must be Massachusetts residents with a valid driver’s license or ID card and an active passenger vehicle registration. Only one entry per applicant is allowed. Companies and MassDOT employees and their immediate families are not eligible.

Entries must be submitted online by August 15, with winners announced by September 15. Results will be posted on the RMV website. Winners have until December 31 to transfer their current registration to their new plate; unclaimed plates will go to alternate winners after this date.

All information received during the lottery process is subject to release under Massachusetts Public Records law.
