The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has published its 2023-24 legislative Voting Record, which evaluates Massachusetts lawmakers based on their support for small business concerns. This record aims to help small businesses and their advocates understand the positions of Beacon Hill legislators regarding local economic opportunities.
Christopher Carlozzi, NFIB Massachusetts State Director, stated that “small business owners in Massachusetts need to know which state lawmakers are looking out for their future, their employees’ futures, and the economic future of communities across the Commonwealth.” He emphasized that while there has been some progress, Massachusetts continues to face challenges due to high taxes, regulations, and mandates. Carlozzi urged legislators to focus on these issues and engage with small businesses in their districts.
The 2023-24 Massachusetts State Voting Record includes evaluations of two bills passed by both the Senate and House and signed into law by Governor Maura Healey. It also reviews seven additional pieces of legislation that progressed in the Senate and one bill that advanced solely in the House.
NFIB represents over 5,000 small business owners in Massachusetts. On average, each member employs ten people and generates $500,000 in annual revenue. The voting record reflects key legislative issues such as tax relief, labor mandates, energy policies, and regulations that are important to small businesses.
The organization clarified that the Voting Record does not capture every factor considered by lawmakers during votes nor does it provide a complete profile of individual legislators. For more details on the results for all legislators and key issues, interested parties can visit NFIB’s website.
