The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has extended the deadline for its annual “Name a Snowplow” contest, encouraging students across the state to participate. The new deadline for submissions is now set for 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12. This initiative aims to engage students in naming 12 snowplows that will be operational during the 2025/2026 winter season.

The contest not only celebrates the winter season but also acknowledges the efforts of public works employees and contractors who maintain road safety during harsh weather conditions. Winning entries will be revealed on Friday, December 19, and successful participants will have the opportunity to attend a snowplow unveiling event.

Entries can be submitted through an online portal by the specified deadline. A panel of MassDOT employees will select two winning names from elementary school classrooms within each of the six Highway Division districts. The evaluation will be divided into two categories: kindergarten through fourth grade and fifth grade through eighth grade.

Last year’s contest saw creative names such as Snowana, Control-Salt-Delete, Taylor Drift, and Ice S’now More adorning plow trucks. These names remain on their respective vehicles.

For more details about the contest, interested parties are encouraged to visit the official contest website.
