A Marlboro resident, Larry Stephen, 46, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material. The sentencing took place in Boston federal court before U.S. Senior District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton. In addition to his prison term, Stephen will serve five years of supervised release and must pay $13,000 in restitution.

Stephen pleaded guilty in April 2025 to one count each of distribution and possession of child pornography. He was arrested on July 18, 2023 following a criminal complaint and later indicted by a federal grand jury the next month.

Authorities determined that Stephen used a social media platform to receive and distribute illegal content. A search of his Marlboro home on June 7, 2023 led to the seizure of his cell phone. Investigators found images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material on the device and confirmed that he had repeatedly posted such content online.

“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge, Homeland Security Investigations in New England; and Jennifer De La O, Director of Field Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Boston Field Office made the announcement today.” The Marlboro Police Department also assisted with the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David G. Tobin and Eric Hawkins from the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies to identify offenders and rescue victims.
