Two brothers from Lynn, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to charges related to drug trafficking in federal court on August 5, 2025. Meliek Bennett, 29, and Maurice Bennett, 38, admitted to conspiring to distribute cocaine, counterfeit pills, and other controlled substances across the North Shore region.
Maurice Bennett was identified as a member of the Bloods street gang with prior convictions for firearms offenses and violent crimes. Authorities intercepted numerous text messages between the brothers discussing their coordination in distributing drugs such as cocaine, prescription medication, counterfeit pills, and marijuana. The conversations included details about sharing customers and supplies, paying off debts related to drug transactions, and planning a trip to New Hampshire for further distribution.
In September 2024, investigators recorded Meliek Bennett describing his intention to use a silenced pistol against a drug supplier after an altercation over unpaid debts. Following this conversation, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Meliek’s residence in Lynn. They found fentanyl tablets, oxycodone, gabapentin, marijuana, a .22 caliber pistol with a threaded barrel, and ammunition.
Both men were arrested and charged in May 2025. U.S. District Court Judge Brian E. Murphy scheduled sentencing for November 3, 2025. The conspiracy charge carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison along with supervised release and fines determined by federal guidelines.
“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Boston made the announcement. Valuable assistance was provided by the Lynn Police and Massachusetts Department of Corrections. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Philip A. Mallard and David Cutshall of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit are prosecuting the case.”
