Auchincloss, who succeeded Joe Kennedy III in 2021, is known for his advocacy on climate action and scientific research funding.
On February 10, 2025, Rep. Auchincloss criticized the Trump administration’s decision to exit the Paris Accord. He emphasized that this move should not hinder progress in climate action and clean-energy innovation. Highlighting hot-rock geothermal energy as a viable solution with bipartisan support, he stated: “The Trump administration’s self-defeating decision to leave the Paris Accord cannot be allowed to derail climate action & clean-energy innovation.”
In another post dated February 11, 2025, Auchincloss expressed concern over Trump’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) policy changes. He warned that these policies could significantly impact Massachusetts’ economy by reducing research funding by $2 billion. This reduction could discourage young scientists and affect progress in treating diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer: “Trump’s NIH policy is a $2 billion chainsaw to the Massachusetts economy.”
Further emphasizing the importance of NIH funding for Massachusetts, Auchincloss tweeted on February 12, 2025: “Hundreds of thousands of jobs & billions in Bay State GDP rely upon NIH funding.” His statement underscores the critical role that federal research support plays in sustaining local economies and advancing scientific leadership.
