Rep. Jake Auchincloss, who represents Massachusetts’ 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on August 1, 2025, addressing federal funding for health research, gun legislation, and policy priorities.

In his first post of the day, Auchincloss emphasized the importance of federal support for medical research institutions: “The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is an engine of better health and economic development. Congress knows that, economists know that, and Bay Staters know that. Any attempts to cut the NIH must be stopped cold.” (August 1, 2025)

Later that afternoon, he commented on provisions in recent legislation related to firearms: “As a father, the section of the law that made my stomach turn was the tax breaks for silencers and sawed-off shotguns. Children are gunned down every day in America. Gun violence is their leading cause of death. Republicans actually spent taxpayer money to make mass murder” (August 1, 2025)

In an evening post summarizing his legislative goals, Auchincloss stated: “Restore law & order, treat cost disease, and deliver excellent education.” (August 1, 2025)

Jake Auchincloss has represented Massachusetts’s 4th District in Congress since replacing Joe Kennedy III in 2021. Before serving at the federal level, he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Born in Newton in 1988 and currently residing there at age 35, Auchincloss holds degrees from Harvard University and MIT.
