A Honduran national living in Lynn, Massachusetts, has been sentenced to seven months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. Douglas Mejia-Romero, 45, received his sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun and will also serve two years of supervised release following his prison term. Upon completion of his sentence, Mejia-Romero faces deportation.
Mejia-Romero pleaded guilty in May 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. Authorities said that he was previously deported on May 15, 2020, but returned to the United States without authorization. Between 2008 and 2020, he was removed from the country five times and unlawfully reentered after each removal.
This marks Mejia-Romero’s third conviction for illegal reentry. In May 2015, he was convicted in the District of New Hampshire and sentenced to nine months in prison with two years of supervised release. He was again convicted in April 2020 in federal court in Texas and sentenced to six months.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: “United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement.” Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus prosecuted the case.
