Harvard women’s heavyweight rowing finished fourth in the team standings at the 50th Ivy League Rowing Championship on May 17 at Cooper River Park, with all six boats competing in the grand finals. The varsity four led Harvard-Radcliffe with a second-place finish and earned a silver medal.

The result marks an important milestone for Harvard-Radcliffe, as it was the first time in nine years that a team reached the podium in an NCAA-scoring race. The varsity four, stroked by Vivi Sun, overcame a slow start to challenge defending champion Yale to the finish line. Yale crossed first with a time of 7:07.505, just half a second ahead of Harvard-Radcliffe’s 7:08.056.

Other boats also competed strongly throughout the day. The third and second varsity fours began competition by placing sixth and fifth respectively. In eight-stroke races, Harvard-Radcliffe’s boat stroked by Asha Hug finished sixth in 6:54.172 during its grand final appearance.

In later races, Claudia Chadwick stroked the Black and White to fifth place in the second varsity eight event with a time of 6:30.924, while Alexia Fayd’herbe de Maudave led the varsity eight to sixth place at 6:24.629.

Detailed results show strong performances across all events despite stiff competition from teams such as Princeton, Yale, Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth and Penn.

Looking ahead, attention turns to national competition as the NCAA selection show is scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m.
