Harvard University announced on May 15 that ten athletes from its sailing program have been named to the 2025-26 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) All-Academic Sailing Team. This marks the highest number of Harvard honorees since 2023, when twelve student-athletes received similar recognition.
The announcement is significant as it highlights academic achievement among student-athletes, emphasizing the balance between sports and academics at Harvard. Recognizing these students showcases their dedication both in competition and in the classroom.
The athletes named to this year’s team are Aidan Pesce, Christina Chen, JJ Drummond, Justin Callahan, Katherine Shin, Mitchell Callahan, Peyton Hadfield, Robby Meek, Sophia Montgomery and Xavier Ayala-Vermont. For Justin Callahan, Mitchell Callahan, Pesce and Montgomery, this is their second time receiving the award.
Eligibility for selection requires sailors to be juniors or seniors who have participated as competitors or alternates in at least seven regattas while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Currently, the Crimson sailing team is competing at the ICSA Fleet Racing National Championship in St. Petersburg, Florida. The women’s regatta runs through May 18 with the open championship scheduled for May 19-22.
This recognition reflects continued academic success within Harvard’s sailing program and highlights ongoing participation at national-level competitions.
