The Harvard men’s lightweight rowing team, currently ranked No. 1, will travel to Annapolis, Maryland to race against Navy and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), according to an April 17 announcement. The teams will compete for the Haines Cup against Navy and the Paulovich Trophy against MIT.

This event is significant as it brings together top collegiate rowing teams for annual competitions that have a long-standing tradition. Harvard’s participation continues its strong history in these matchups.

Last year, Harvard’s varsity and second varsity boats secured clear victories over both Navy and MIT in Cambridge despite difficult weather conditions. Six rowers from last year’s Haines Cup-winning varsity boat are returning this season, including stroke Ben Lundie. Historically, Harvard holds a record of 54 wins and nine losses against Navy, and 99 wins with fifteen losses against MIT.

The races are scheduled with tentative times: third varsity at 7:40 a.m., second varsity at 8:00 a.m., and varsity eight at 8:20 a.m. The lineup for each boat has been set, with Nathalie Gregg coxing the varsity eight alongside rowers such as Ben Lundie and Alex Forbes; Sylvie Spitz leading the second varsity; and Haley Hicks coxing the third boat.

Following this competition in Annapolis, Harvard is scheduled to return home to race Princeton and Yale on the Charles River for the Goldthwait and Vogel Cups.
