A Guatemalan national living in Framingham was sentenced on March 4 in federal court in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported several times. Ariel Humberto Diaz, 33, received a sentence of 14 months in prison and two years of supervised release from U.S. District Court Chief Judge Denise J. Casper. Diaz will be subject to deportation again after serving his sentence.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address repeated illegal entries into the country by individuals who have previously been removed. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Diaz had been deported five times to Guatemala and had twice been convicted of illegal re-entry before this most recent offense.

Diaz pleaded guilty in October 2025 to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien, following his indictment by a federal grand jury in June 2025. His most recent removal from the United States occurred in March 2022, but he returned without permission sometime afterward. Prior removals took place in May 2014, April 2016, October 2016, and November 2018.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alexandra W. Amrhein and Jennifer Zacks prosecuted the case.

The sentencing underscores continued enforcement actions against repeat immigration offenders as authorities seek to uphold immigration laws.
