An Ecuadorian national, Luis Ernesto Caguana-Caguana, was sentenced in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs ordered Caguana-Caguana, 33, to time served, which amounted to about 37 days in prison. Following his sentence, he is now subject to deportation proceedings.

Caguana-Caguana had previously been deported from the United States on March 6, 2014. Authorities stated that at some point after his removal in March 2014, he returned to the country without authorization.

During the hearing, Caguana-Caguana pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexandra W. Amrhein of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
