A Dominican national, Carlos Yuniol Pimentel-Ortiz, was sentenced in federal court in Boston for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. U.S. District Court Judge Myong J. Joun handed down a sentence of 15 months in prison and one year of supervised release. Following completion of his sentence, Pimentel-Ortiz will be subject to deportation.
Pimentel-Ortiz pleaded guilty on October 14, 2025, to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He had previously been deported from the United States in November 2023.
Before his removal from the country, Pimentel-Ortiz was convicted in Essex Superior Court in November 2020 for assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, and possessing ammunition without a license. In October 2022, he was also convicted in Middlesex Superior Court for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
After his deportation in November 2023, Pimentel-Ortiz returned to the United States without permission. In March 2025, law enforcement agents executed a drug search warrant at a location in Boston where Pimentel-Ortiz was found and determined to be unlawfully present. He was taken into custody at that time.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley stated: “United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement.” Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert E. Richardson from the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
