A Dominican national has been sentenced in Boston federal court for illegally reentering the United States after being deported. Yonelin Manuel Baez Soto, 31, received a sentence of one year and one day in prison, followed by two years of supervised release. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper.
Baez Soto pleaded guilty in May 2025 to a charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He had been indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2025.
According to court records, Baez Soto was previously removed from the United States in November 2020 following his conviction for a felony narcotics offense in Essex Superior Court. Before his removal, he had also been convicted on several counts related to misuse of a Social Security number and aggravated identity theft in U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
After his removal in November 2020, Baez Soto returned to the United States without legal permission. In addition to the illegal reentry case, Baez Soto was indicted again by a federal grand jury in May 2025 on charges including conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances; that case remains pending in Boston federal court.
Upon completion of all imposed sentences, Baez Soto is subject to deportation.
“United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Cutshall of the Criminal Division prosecuted the case.”
