A Dominican national, Jose Alberto Tejeda Turbi, was sentenced on April 2 in federal court in Boston for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs sentenced Tejeda Turbi, 46, to 18 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release. He will be subject to deportation after completing his sentence.
Tejeda Turbi pleaded guilty in March to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He had been indicted by a federal grand jury in January.
Court records show that Tejeda Turbi was previously convicted in July 2015 for heroin distribution and conspiracy and served five years in prison with four years of supervised release. After completing his sentence, he was deported from the United States in March 2020.
Sometime following his removal, Tejeda Turbi returned to the United States without permission. In June 2024, he was sentenced again—this time by Lawrence District Court—to two years for assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury as well as three years of probation on other charges.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and David T. Wesling, Acting Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the sentencing decision. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad A. Rocheville prosecuted the case.
