A Dominican national residing unlawfully in Dorchester, Massachusetts, has been sentenced to over two years in prison for identity theft. Luis Alison Roa Lara, aged 42, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs to 27 months of imprisonment followed by one year of supervised release. Upon completing his sentence, Roa Lara will face deportation proceedings.
In March 2025, Roa Lara pleaded guilty to charges including making a false statement in a U.S. passport application, aggravated identity theft, and misuse of a Social Security number. He was initially arrested and charged in August 2024.
Roa Lara used the personal identifying information of a Puerto Rican citizen for nearly ten years. This stolen identity was used to obtain a Massachusetts driver’s license and to apply for a United States passport.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Matthew O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service, Boston Field Office. The investigation received support from the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service’s Detroit Resident Office, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Lorain Police Department in Ohio. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian Sullivan prosecuted the case.
