A Dominican national residing unlawfully in Chelsea has been indicted for reentering the United States after deportation. Dawin Hereaux-Pena, 30, faces charges of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

According to court documents, Hereaux-Pena was deported from the United States to the Dominican Republic around February 5, 2019. He allegedly reentered the country illegally and was arrested in Chelsea on May 29, 2025.

The charge carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Following any imposed sentence, the defendant is subject to deportation. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge according to U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Fred M. Wyshak from the Organized Crime & Gang Unit is handling prosecution.

The allegations are detailed in charging documents; however, the defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
