A federal grand jury in Boston has indicted Miguel Gonzalez Duarte, a 37-year-old Dominican national residing unlawfully in Worcester, on multiple counts related to the distribution of fentanyl. The indictment includes one count of distribution and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, two counts involving 40 grams or more, and one count involving 400 grams or more.
Gonzalez Duarte was arrested on October 29, 2025, and remains in federal custody. According to court documents, he allegedly distributed counterfeit pills containing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and xylazine on several occasions in August and September 2025. On August 21, approximately 191 pills weighing about 21.9 grams were distributed in a store parking lot on Main Street in Worcester. On September 3, about 482 pills weighing around 54.9 grams were allegedly distributed at the same location. Later that month, on September 24, approximately 2,000 suspected fentanyl pills weighing roughly 226 grams were also distributed there.
On October 15, Gonzalez Duarte is alleged to have distributed around 20,000 suspected fentanyl pills in the parking lot of a Worcester restaurant. Authorities say he dropped the bag of pills and tried to flee when approached by law enforcement but was apprehended shortly after.
At the time of these alleged offenses, Gonzalez Duarte was on probation for an April 2025 conviction for possession with intent to distribute Class A and B drugs in Worcester District Court.
The charges carry significant penalties if convicted: up to twenty years for general distribution and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl; between five and forty years for offenses involving forty grams or more; and at least ten years up to life imprisonment for offenses involving four hundred grams or more. Fines can reach up to $10 million depending on the charge. Upon completion of any sentence imposed, Gonzalez Duarte is subject to deportation. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge according to U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
