Last week, Common Cause Massachusetts introduced its Platform for People Power, detailing their goals for the 2025-2026 state legislative session. The initiative aims to implement same-day voter registration, ensure hybrid access to government meetings, and enhance transparency concerning funding for state ballot questions. Over 300 residents participated in the virtual launch to learn how they can contribute to this pro-democracy movement.
“Right now, our democracy is being attacked from every angle. That’s why we’re launching the ‘Platform for People Power’ to meet this moment and take action at the state and local level,” stated Geoff Foster, Executive Director of Common Cause Massachusetts. “Our commonsense, pro-democracy reforms put the most essential element of our democracy – the people – front and center. Together, we’ll continue advocating for critical legislation that strengthens our voting rights, makes it easier for people to participate in their government, and increases transparency to hold those in power accountable.”
Since January’s start of the 194th session, over 817 members of Common Cause Massachusetts have reached out to their representatives in support of measures such as hybrid public meeting access and same-day voter registration. The organization boasts nearly 20,000 active members throughout Massachusetts.
These efforts build on previous successes achieved by Common Cause last legislative session, including passing laws to ban firearms at polling places and making phone calls from jails and prisons free.
