Merrimack College head baseball coach Brian Murphy was named Coach of the Year and four players received Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) awards, according to a May 19 announcement from the conference.

The recognition highlights a successful season for the Warriors, who finished with a 26-27 overall record and went 20-10 in MAAC play. The team secured the No. 4 seed in the upcoming MAAC Baseball Championships at Heritage Financial Park.

Matt DeShiro and Joey Frammartino were selected for First Team All-MAAC honors. DeShiro, a sophomore second baseman, ended the regular season with a .322 batting average, recording 74 hits—26 of which were extra-base hits—and led his team with 60 runs scored. Frammartino, a graduate student in his first year at Merrimack, posted a .320 average and had a team-high .975 OPS along with 52 RBI and 46 runs scored.

Greg Cristino earned Second Team recognition after leading Merrimack in both RBI (54) and home runs (13), achieving a .560 slugging percentage. Freshman catcher Garrett McGovern was named to the All-Rookie Team following his team-best .323 batting average over 39 games.

This is Murphy’s second time being honored as Coach of the Year at Division I level but marks his first such award during his tenure at Merrimack. He previously earned Coastal Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2014 while coaching William & Mary. The Warriors improved significantly under Murphy’s leadership this season after being predicted to finish twelfth in preseason polls.
