A Brazilian national, Thiago Aquino-De Paula, has pleaded guilty to unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. The plea was entered in a federal court in Worcester, Massachusetts. U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman has set the sentencing date for August 28, 2025.

Aquino-De Paula, aged 33, faced indictment by a federal grand jury in April 2025 on one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. He had been previously deported from the United States on three occasions, including around November 4, 2021. After his last removal, he illegally returned to the U.S., where he was later found in Massachusetts following an arrest in Uxbridge for allegedly operating under the influence.

The charge against Aquino-De Paula could lead to a sentence of up to two years in prison, followed by one year of supervised release and a potential fine reaching $250,000. Post-sentence, he is subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley alongside Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin J. Brown from the Worcester Branch Office.
