Boston University women’s rowing wins third straight Patriot League title

The Boston University women’s rowing team won its third consecutive Patriot League championship on May 15, securing victory in all eight races at the league event held on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

This achievement highlights Boston University’s dominance in the competition, as they finished with a total of 319.5 points. Bucknell came in second with 242 points, while Navy took third place with 209 points. Other teams competing included MIT, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Colgate, Lehigh and Loyola Maryland.

All four Boston University boats advanced to their respective grand finals after first-place finishes during morning heats. The varsity eight boat clinched first place with a time of 6:26.042 despite a late push from Bucknell. The second varsity eight completed their race in 6:33.426 and finished nearly seven seconds ahead of Holy Cross. The varsity four and second varsity four boats also secured victories by comfortable margins.

In addition to team success, individual honors were awarded at the event. The Terriers’ varsity eight earned Boat of the Year recognition for the third consecutive year and sixth time overall since 2014. Director of Women’s Rowing Malcolm Doldron and his coaching staff received Patriot League Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

With this win, Boston University earned an automatic bid to compete at the NCAA Championships scheduled for May 29-31 at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia.

Looking ahead, observers will watch how Boston University’s women’s rowing program performs on the national stage following its strong showing within its conference.
