Boston University women’s rowing finishes 19th at NCAA Championships

The Boston University women’s rowing team finished its season with a 19th-place result at the NCAA Championships on May 31 at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia. The competition concluded with BU racing through heavy tailwinds on the final day.

The Varsity 4+ began the day for BU in the C Final, where the boat, coxed by senior Maya Wiisanen and stroked by freshman Louise Forrester, took sixth place with a time of 7:10.677.

In the Second Varsity 8+ D Final, Boston University secured first place. The crew was coxed by sophomore Sydney Caragher and stroked by sophomore Gigi Williams, finishing with a time of 6:21.480—nine seconds ahead of second-place Rhode Island (6:30.800).

The Varsity 8+ also earned first place in its D Final race. Coxed by sophomore Laura Leong and stroked by freshman Marta Carfagni, BU posted a time of 6:11.072 to finish eight seconds ahead of UMass (6:17.530).

BU’s lineups included Aryn Bailey, Sarah Stacey, Tatum Swanwick, Olivia Bencze, Raylynn Boston, Ingrid Eshuis, Kate Barham and Marta Carfagni in the Varsity 8+, while Elisabeth Arnason, Maeve Keohane, Ada Giraldo, Sophia Williams, Lydia Pelton, Emily Over and Grace Wellington joined Gigi Williams and Sydney Caragher in the Second Varsity 8+. Cece Engel, Abby Berg and Emma Cuzzocrea rounded out the Varsity 4+ lineup alongside Wiisanen and Forrester.
