Boston University will open a three-game Patriot League softball series against Army West Point starting Friday, April 17. The first game is scheduled for 2 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon at the Army Softball Complex in West Point, New York.
The matchup brings together last season’s tournament champion, Boston University (34-12 overall, 11-1 in league play), and defending regular season champion Army West Point (24-20 overall, 6-3 in league). Both teams are seeking to strengthen their positions as the postseason approaches.
Boston University enters the series with a strong road record of 10-5 this year. Junior Kylie Doherty leads the Terriers with a .392 batting average and holds both program and Patriot League single-season records with 19 home runs and 64 RBIs. Doherty currently has 147 career RBIs, just two behind senior Brooke Deppiesse’s total of 149; Alex Heinen holds the school record with 155. Seven Terriers are batting above .300 this season. In pitching, senior Kasey Ricard has posted a record of 24-5 with a 2.77 ERA and recorded three saves along with her teammate Haley Ganino.
Army West Point boasts an impressive home record of 10-2 and is currently on an eight-game win streak after sweeping Iona earlier this week. Five Black Knights players have batting averages over .300; Hannah Laub leads the team at .400 while Ashton White, last year’s Patriot League Player of the Year, has seven home runs and seven doubles so far.
Historically, Boston University leads the all-time series against Army West Point by a margin of 33 wins to 13 losses and holds a strong road performance as well. Last season saw each team take victories during regular play before Boston clinched back-to-back wins over Army in the conference tournament to secure an NCAA berth.
Looking ahead, Boston University will return home next Tuesday to host Rhode Island for their first meeting since earning a victory over them in 2019.
