Boston College Baseball will play Liberty on Friday in the opening game of the Athens Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on ESPN+, according to a May 28 announcement from the program.
The Eagles return to the NCAA Tournament for the 13th time in program history and their first appearance since 2023. The regional includes number-3 overall seed Georgia, Boston College as a two-seed, three-seed Liberty, and four-seed LIU.
Boston College recently completed its most successful regular season ever, recording a program-record 17 wins in Atlantic Coast Conference play and tying for second-most total wins in a single season with 36. The team achieved key victories against top-ranked opponents including Miami, North Carolina, NC State, and Clemson.
In previous NCAA Tournament appearances, Boston College holds an overall record of 25-25. Their last tournament run ended at the Tuscaloosa Regional in 2023 after falling to Alabama. In their prior trip in 2016, Boston College advanced out of the Oxford Regional but was eliminated by Miami during Super Regionals.
Three players received All-ACC honors following this season: A.J. Colarusso and Nick Wang were named to the third team, while Luke Gallo earned All-Freshman recognition. Colarusso posted four league wins over ten starts with a team-high 46 strikeouts; Wang led the team with seven home runs; Gallo led all batters with a .350 average.
Friday’s matchup will feature Colarusso (5-4 record) against Ben Blair (CUSA Pitcher of the Year), who has posted a 3.61 ERA for Liberty this season. Liberty enters at 41-19 overall after finishing runner-up in Conference USA’s title game and is led offensively by shortstop Tanner Marsh.
Depending on Friday’s result, Boston College will next face either Georgia or LIU on Saturday.
