Boston College baseball lost to Miami 8-2 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on May 21. The game took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, with Boston College entering as the No. 4 seed and Miami as the No. 5 seed.
The loss ends Boston College’s run in the conference tournament and puts their postseason hopes on hold until selections for the NCAA Tournament are announced. The team had a strong start, scoring two runs in the first inning with Jack Toomey hitting an RBI single and Kyle Wolff following with an RBI double.
Miami responded quickly, taking advantage of opportunities in the second inning to take a lead they would not give up. Fabio Peralta hit a two-run home run after a groundout scored one run, followed by another run on a wild pitch later that inning. In the fourth inning, Alex Sosa added to Miami’s lead with a two-run home run. Gabriel Milano contributed an RBI double in the seventh and another run was scored by Miami in the eighth.
Despite solid performances from Wolff, who went 2-for-4 at bat including one double and one RBI, and pitcher A.J. Colarusso striking out five over five innings, Boston College could not regain momentum after falling behind early.
Looking ahead, Boston College will wait for their potential selection into the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show is scheduled for noon on Monday, May 25 on ESPN2. If selected for an at-large bid, it would mark Boston College’s thirteenth appearance in program history.
