The Boston City Council has passed a resolution marking March 16-22, 2025, as ‘Sunshine Week,’ highlighting the significance of open and accessible government. The resolution was introduced by City Councilor Liz Breadon and City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune in collaboration with Common Cause Massachusetts and other advocates for good governance.
The council members expressed their backing for legislation mandating permanent remote access to public meetings, aligning with one of Common Cause’s primary objectives for the current legislative session. Geoff Foster, Executive Director of Common Cause Massachusetts, stated, “All Bostonians deserve an open, accessible, and transparent government. By passing this resolution, the Boston City Council is showing their commitment to open government this Sunshine Week and beyond.”
Boston, with a population of 653,833 people, stands as the largest municipality in Massachusetts endorsing the requirement for permanent remote access to public meetings.
