A Barnstable man has been sentenced to over two years in federal prison for narcotics-related offenses. John Kirk Costello, aged 45 and originally from Milton, received a 30-month prison sentence followed by four years of supervised release. The sentencing was delivered by U.S. District Court Senior Judge William G. Young.

Costello had pleaded guilty on July 11, 2024, to charges including the distribution of methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute both methamphetamine and fentanyl. His criminal activities came to light when he sold approximately 1,000 counterfeit Adderall pills laced with methamphetamine to an undercover law enforcement officer on January 13, 2021.

Further investigations led to a search of Costello’s residence in November 2021, where authorities seized significant quantities of illegal substances. These included around 264 grams of high-purity methamphetamine, approximately six kilograms of lower-purity methamphetamine, over 2,400 counterfeit Adderall pills containing methamphetamine, and more than 1,700 counterfeit Percocet pills containing fentanyl.

The announcement regarding Costello’s sentencing was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Tolkoff from the Criminal Division handled the prosecution.
