An Ashland resident, Brent Vreeland, 36, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston on charges related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Vreeland faces one count each of transportation, receipt, and possession of child pornography. He is scheduled for arraignment in federal court in Boston on July 17, 2025.
The charges stem from an incident in October 2024 when Vreeland was subjected to secondary screening at Boston’s Logan Airport after arriving from Reykjavik, Iceland. Authorities allege that a review of his cell phone uncovered images and videos depicting CSAM within the Telegram Messenger app. A forensic examination reportedly revealed approximately 30 media files showing CSAM exchanged with unknown users. Additionally, it is alleged that Vreeland received and distributed three videos in October 2021 involving minor victims aged four to ten years old.
The transportation and receipt charges each carry potential sentences ranging from five to twenty years in prison, along with fines up to $250,000 and supervised release terms extending up to a lifetime. The possession charge carries a sentence of up to twenty years imprisonment.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Michael J. Krol of Homeland Security Investigations announced the indictment with assistance from Customs and Border Patrol’s Boston Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm will prosecute the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse through collaboration between federal, state, and local resources.
Vreeland remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
